On December 31, 2024, the Standardization Administration of China issued the Notice on the 2024 National Standard Special Plan for Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality and the Foreign Language Version Plan of Related Standards (SAC [2024] No. 58). The “Requirements of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Accounting and Report – Part XX: Faecal Sludge Treatment Enterprises” was officially launched, with the University of Science and Technology Beijing taking the lead in drafting it. The participating departments include the Standardization Administration of China and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. The experts are from the University of Science and Technology Beijing, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Beijing Environment Exchange, and so on.

On June 3, 2025, the compilation group held its first working meeting. The meeting was hosted by the University of Science and Technology Beijing and supported by the Secretariat of the National Technical Committee of Urban and Rural Sanitation Standardization. Ms. GUO Gaiai from UPM was invited to participate the first working meeting on June 3, 2025, and provided comments and suggestions to the draft framework and report.
