After successful completion of the Gold Standard’s performance review, UPM’s Sichuan Rural Poor-Household Biogas Development Programme in China (CDM PoA 2898, GS 1239) will soon obtain its thirteenth, the last issuance of Gold Standard VERs covering vintage 2024 and 2025. After deduction of applicable share of proceeds to support Gold Standard operations, 139,226 premium-quality GS VERswill be available for sale to help clients around the globe achieve their climate action and CSR objectives. With thirteen issuances obtained since its start summing up to a volume of almost 8 million GS CERs and GS VERs, this PoA ranks among the largest and most reliable suppliers of Gold Standard carbon credits for the voluntary carbon market.
In 2025, the Sichuan Rural Poor-Household Biogas Development Programme (GS1239) has been awarded a Tier 1 GHG rating (AAA-D scale) and a 4+ SDG rating (1+-5+ scale) by the independent ratings provider Calyx Global. This prestigious evaluation places the programme among the top 10% of all projects rated by Calyx and cements its status as a world-leading household biogas initiative.
The Sichuan Household Biogas PoA has reached the end of its crediting period and no more new carbon credits will be issued by this groundbreaking and most impactful GHG emissions avoidance programme.

About the Sichuan Household Biogas PoA
Clean, Affordable and Convenient Biogas for Poor Rural Households
It is one of the first Programmes of Activities (PoAs) worldwide to be registered under CDM and the Gold Standard for Global Goals (GS4GG). Nearly 400,000 poor Sichuan farmer households have benefitted from this PoA since 2012. The annual GHG emissions reduction is about 725,000 tCO2e at full scale, plus exceptionally large, verified SDG impact.
