In July 14 and 15, 2025, the GIZ Sino-German Expert Workshop on Methane Mitigation Policies and Best Practices is held in Shandong Province, China.
It is a part of the “Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change – NDC Implementation”, a bilateral project of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and cooperating with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China (MEE) as political partner on Chinese side. GIZ is the lead organization on the German side.
The project supports the provinces of Guangdong and Shandong in implementing China’s climate targets – the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) – on subnational level. A special focus of the exchange with both provinces lies on the development of provincial strategies and action plans for the mitigation of methane emissions in the agriculture, waste and energy sectors.
The objective of the workshop is to strengthen Sino-German expert dialogue on effective policy frameworks, emission trends, and technical case studies related to methane reduction—particularly in key provinces like Shandong and Guangdong—while drawing on European best practices.

Mr. Heinz-Peter Mang, Ms. Gaiai Guo and Ms. Jiexi Feng participated the workshop and made presentations on “Policies, Pathways and Practices for Methane Emission Mitigation in the EU and Germany” and “International Case Studies on Mthane Emission Mitigation”.
