Germany – June 2026 – UPM Umwelt-Projekt-Management GmbH (UPM), a recognised leader in the development and structuring of high-quality carbon projects, today announced a global Request for Information (RFI) to identify landfill gas (LFG) projects with strong potential to generate verifiable carbon credits.
As carbon markets continue to grow and mature, demand is rising for credible, high-integrity projects capable of delivering real, measurable, and verifiable emission reductions. Landfill gas projects represent a significant climate mitigation opportunity: by capturing methane emissions from landfill sites and either destroying the gas through flaring or converting it into useful energy, these projects deliver immediate greenhouse gas reductions while generating local environmental and socio-economic benefits.
Through this RFI, UPM is seeking to collaborate with landfill operators, waste management companies, municipalities, and project developers worldwide. Beyond assessing project eligibility, UPM aims to support selected partners in strengthening project design, addressing potential gaps, and unlocking value through carbon credit generation and commercialisation under internationally recognised standards.
"We are looking for projects that can make a real difference," said Martin Dilger, the managing director of UPM. "Whether you operate an existing landfill with untapped gas capture potential or are planning a new site, we want to hear from you. Our goal is to help partners navigate the carbon market and turn methane destruction into a sustainable revenue stream."
Submit Your Project
Interested organisations are invited to complete a dedicated questionnaire to assess technical characteristics, operational status, and carbon finance potential. The information provided will also help identify opportunities to further improve and structure projects for future certification and financing.
