Landfill gas carbon projects
As carbon markets continue to grow and mature, there is an increasing demand for credible, high-integrity projects capable of delivering real, measurable, and verifiable emission reductions.
Among these, landfill gas (LFG) projects represent a significant opportunity. By capturing methane emissions — a greenhouse gas with a substantially higher global warming potential than CO₂ — and either destroying it or converting it into useful energy, these projects deliver immediate climate impact while also generating local environmental and socio-economic co-benefits.
UPM is seeking to collaborate with landfill operators and project developers to identify, assess, and support the development of landfill gas projects with strong potential to access carbon finance. Through its expertise in carbon project development, methodology application, certification processes, and market access, UPM aims to support selected projects in unlocking value from carbon credits and bringing them to market under recognized standards.
UPM has developed a questionnaire to support an initial screening of a project’s technical characteristics, operational status, and carbon finance potential. Here is the link to the questionnaire: Submit your project
The information provided will enable UPM to conduct an initial assessment and determine the most appropriate pathway for collaboration and project development support.
Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in developing a landfill gas carbon project, and UPM’s experts can also provide support for completing the questionnaire.
